THE BORDER WOOD

An ancient, unexplored forest which once stretched along the entire coast of the Border Kingdoms. Logged away in recent centuries to half its former glory, for rich farmland and wood and new villages.

Those broad sections of it which still exist are said to be fae-haunted and wizard marked, particularly the large swaths to the east of Yallasch and Theymarsh. Bandit-haunted is another term often heard and easily believed, for the woods are also a favored hiding place for those whose reputations make them wanted men, even in Yallasch.

Woodsmen hunt sun bear, boar and other creatures for sport on the fringes, but even they dare not go much deeper than the loggers, worried by supersition and the strange, savage ghosts said to dwell deep within the wood.

There are haunted trails cut through the wood from the east and the north, from villages on the plain from which Yallasch tithes the majority of its grain and produce. These trails stick to the edges of the wood, where possible, though one infamous trail cuts through the heart of the forest and has mysteriously claimed the life of more than one traveler.

Another little-used trail leads south from Yallasch towards the thrinving town of Selpt, sticking near the coast and only cutting through the forest in two areas, and then only through the outskirts.
