All characters except those with a code of 'X' in Presence
have a Wild Talent, an untrained psionic ability which they may be able to access.
If a character has taken the Psionic Mastery skill, then the player should refer to the
"Mastering the Way" section for details.
The exact power a character has is determined either via
random draw or by choice (by adding an extra card to the draw at character creation).
The suit of the card along with its aura determines the nature of the power held by
the character. A white card entails a defensive power while a black card entails an
offensive power; a red card indicates a neutral power (often of information gathering
function). The suit of the card indicates the ability enhanced or affected by the
power.
Note that the suit of Dragons indicates a powerful and rare ability that also has a
baneful side-effect for the individual gifted and cursed with it.
The Narrator and player should come up with a very specific,
limited power based around the suit and aura, as there is no specific list to choose from.

When the character attempts to use their Wild Talent, instead
of using a card from their hand to overcome the Difficulty, they must draw from the Fate
Deck and use the card drawn.
The Difficulty for any attempted use of the power is based
upon the Presence code, modified by the appropriate Ability Score (usually Spirit, if any)
of the target.
| Ability Code |
Difficulty |
| A |
Average (8) |
| B |
Challenging (12) |
| C |
Daunting (16) |
| D |
Desperate (20) |
| X |
N/A |
A reasonable limit to place upon the use of the power is no
more than once a day per point of Spirit, though other schemes may as easily be
implemented, and vary from individual to individual, especially in the case of minor, very
limited powers.
