Wealth is used in the manner of an ability and
can fluctuate up and down during the campaign, when necessary, such as when a character
attempts to purchase goods of some sort from the market or deal with a trader.
Whenever such a wealth check is called for, the character must play a card as though
attempting an action, adding their wealth score to the value of the card and comparing it
against the difficulty for buying those goods. Failing the check means the character
is unable to purchase the desired goods.
If a Dragon card is used for this check, it functions as a trump, and the player
must take a card from the Fate Deck and add its value to the action total. Faliure
when using a Dragon card results in the immediate loss of all the character's wealth.
If the value of the card(s) played (not the
action total) exceeds their wealth, the wealth score is temporarily lowered by one point
until they can earn more wealth.
Increasing the wealth score occurs whenever the
character gains some wealth, through sales, charity or outright thievery. To
determine whether their wealth score increases, a card is played. In this case, if
the value of the card is lower than the amount given, the character gains one point of
wealth.
If a Dragon card is used for this check, it functions as a trump and the player
must add another card from the Fate Deck to the action total.
